Wilson, Padrigao Shine in First MPBL Appearances as Zamboanga Snaps Losing Streak
Zamboanga Sikat got an immediate boost from its newest additions, defeating Bulacan, 83-73, on Tuesday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season at One Arena Cainta in Rizal.
Making their professional debuts, Brandon Wilson and Forthsky Padrigao made strong impressions, while veteran Levi Hernandez also contributed in his first game with the team following his recent move from the Iloilo United Royals. The victory lifted Zamboanga to a 3-7 record in the elimination round of the 28-team tournament.
Wilson, a 6-foot-6 forward who previously played for Oklahoma City University, led the way with 16 points, nine rebounds, and four steals to earn Best Player of the Game honors. Padrigao, a former UAAP Season 85 Mythical Team selection from the University of Santo Tomas, also scored 16 points, knocking down four three-pointers while adding four assists and three rebounds.
Hernandez, who played for Batangas City Tanduay Athletics last season, provided solid support with 11 points and two rebounds as Zamboanga strengthened its push to stay in the playoff race after a sluggish start to the campaign.
“I love the intensity, I love the physicality,” said Wilson. “It’s my brand of basketball.”
Inand Fornilos and John Mahari chipped in eight points each, while Joshua Lazaro anchored the team’s all-around effort with 11 rebounds and six assists.
Bulacan, meanwhile, absorbed its third consecutive loss and fell to 3-7 despite a standout performance from Airohn Acop, who finished with 24 points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists. Kenneth Castillo added 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists, and two blocks, while Jeremy Cruz contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
