La Salle completes perfect 16-0 season, reclaims UAAP crown for 13th title
De La Salle University achieved perfection and reclaimed the throne.
The Lady Spikers completed a historic **16-0 season** by sweeping National University in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Finals, 25-22, 25-16, 25-16, on Saturday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
With the victory, La Salle ended a three-year title drought, secured its **13th UAAP championship**, and became the first team since NU in Season 84 (2022) to finish the entire tournament undefeated. This also marked their first tournament sweep since Season 67 (2004).
“Sobrang happy ako dito sa championship na ito,” said a jubilant head coach Ramil de Jesus. “Ito talaga ‘yung target namin after Season 87. Hindi ko rin in-expect na masisweep namin 16-0. Proud ako sa mga players ko at sa coaching staff.”
Shevana Laput was named Finals MVP after delivering a game-high **20 points** (14 attacks, 6 blocks) and 8 digs in the title-clinching match. Angel Canino added 11 points, 10 receptions, and 10 digs, while Amie Provido contributed 9 points. Playmaker Eshana Nunag dished out 17 excellent sets.
The Lady Spikers took control in the decisive third set with a 6-2 run sparked by Laput, Nunag, and Canino, then closed out the match in one hour and 30 minutes.
For NU, captain Vange Alinsug led the way with 14 points, but the Lady Bulldogs settled for silver after dominating the past two seasons. Rookie Sam Cantada added 8 points, while Camilla Lamina played her final game in an NU uniform.
With the sweep, La Salle has now claimed 13 UAAP women’s volleyball titles and re-established itself as the premier program in the league.
