Gensan Dominates Batang Quiapo for 12th Victory of the Season
The Gensan Warriors delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, routing Manila Batang Quiapo, 118-71, in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season at One Arena Cainta in Rizal Province.
Showcasing their depth, six Warriors scored in double figures as Gensan pulled away decisively and built a massive 111-61 advantage en route to improving its record to 12-1 in the 28-team, two-division tournament.
Mark Cruz paced the Warriors with 18 points, all coming from three-point range, while also tallying five assists and four rebounds. His all-around effort earned him Player of the Game honors ahead of teammates JM Versoza and Marwin Dionisio.
Versoza finished with 17 points, including 13 in the second quarter when Gensan widened the gap to 52-33, along with four rebounds. Dionisio nearly posted a triple-double, contributing 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Nelo Santos added 13 points and four rebounds, Joshua Moralejo chipped in 12 points, six assists, and two rebounds, while Karl Gloria rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
Gensan’s dominance was evident on the glass, where it outrebounded Manila, 61-35. The Warriors also converted their size advantage into 22 second-chance points and 37 fastbreak points, far surpassing the Batang Quiapo’s totals of four and 14, respectively.
Despite the lopsided defeat, Manila drew solid performances from Mark Doligon, who scored 19 points, and Joe Gomez De Liano and John Ashley Faa, who each added 17 markers. The loss dropped Batang Quiapo to 1-11.
The MPBL action shifts to the Caloocan Sports Complex on Wednesday, highlighted by a highly anticipated showdown between league-leading Caloocan and contender San Juan at 8 p.m.
Caloocan enters the matchup with an unblemished 11-0 record behind the play of Kymani Ladi, Kean Baclaan, Eric Camson, Dom Escobar, and Jeff Manday. San Juan, meanwhile, boasts an 8-1 mark and is powered by Michael Phillips, Harold Alarcon, AC Soberano, Gerry Abadiano, James Kwekuteye, and Orlan Wamar.
The day’s schedule also features Cebu taking on Parañaque at 4 p.m. and Pasay facing Valenzuela at 6 p.m.
