Chinese Taipei Stays Unbeaten, Draws Level with South Korea in Pool A
CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur – Chinese Taipei kept its unbeaten record intact and tightened its grip on a potential semifinal berth after sweeping Uzbekistan, 25-17, 25-13, 25-19, in the 2026 AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup on Tuesday at the Candon City Arena.
The victory lifted Chinese Taipei to 3-0 in Pool A, matching South Korea’s record at the top of the standings. Both teams now need just one more win to secure spots in the semifinals.
South Korea earlier maintained its perfect campaign with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 triumph over Alas Pilipinas.
Wu Tzuhua spearheaded Chinese Taipei’s attack with a tournament-best 13 points, highlighted by nine spikes, three blocks, and an ace. Xu Zhenxuan and Ko-Hui Kan chipped in 11 points apiece, while Tsai Yuchun added 10 markers.
The defeat officially knocked Uzbekistan out of semifinal contention. Dilnoza Boymirzaeva paced the squad with 11 points, the only player from her team to reach double figures.
In another Pool A encounter, Australia rebounded from its previous loss by defeating Kyrgyzstan in four sets, 25-15, 25-27, 25-16, 25-23, to improve to 2-1.
The Volleyroos leaned on Caitlin Bettenay, who finished with 13 points, while Ella Schabort and Lara Maric contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Kyrgyzstan, still searching for its first win, suffered its fourth straight defeat despite 13-point performances from Raiana Baiamanova and Roza Rasulbek Kyzy.
Over in Pool B, Iran broke into the win column with a dominant 25-9, 25-8, 25-15 sweep of Lebanon, while Indonesia kept its semifinal aspirations alive by defeating Hong Kong, 25-20, 27-25, 25-14.
Fatemeh Khalili led Iran with 10 points from eight attacks, one block, and one ace, while Elahe Poursaleh added nine points. Lebanon, which dropped to 0-3, was led by Mirna Cheikho and Razan El Hajj Hassan with five points each.
Indonesia improved to 1-2 behind Chelsa Berliana Nurtomo’s 13-point performance, while Medi Yoku added 11 points in the straight-sets victory over Hong Kong.
