Gin Kings eye championship crown, aim to finish off Tropang 5G in Game 6
Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will have the chance to claim the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup title as they face TNT Tropang 5G in Game 6 of the Finals tonight at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. The Kings hold a 3-2 series lead after a thrilling 100-95 overtime victory in Game 5, powered by Justin Brownlee’s heroic career-high 54-point performance.
Brownlee carried Ginebra from a seven-point deficit late in regulation, finishing with 54 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block in 51 minutes. It was the highest scoring output in a PBA Finals game since Tony Harris dropped 54 points in 1993.
Despite the momentum, coach Tim Cone remains cautious.
“We’ve spent so much effort, especially Justin, in that game. You’ve got to favor TNT coming into Game 6,” said Cone, who is chasing his 26th PBA title. “We’re going to have to find a way to overcome that.”
TNT, however, has a history of overcoming 3-2 deficits in the Commissioner’s Cup Finals. Last season, they rallied from the same hole to win the championship. This time around, though, they are without key reinforcement Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Achilles injury) and are dealing with several banged-up players, including Calvin Oftana and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser.
Still, the defending champions remain defiant.
“We’ve come back from 3-2 before. Just keep working. Nothing is impossible,” said Roger Pogoy. “We only need three more wins.”
According to Tiger Score, TNT is the +1.5 underdog for Game 6, with the over/under total set at 195.5 points.
A Ginebra win tonight would wrap up the series and crown them champions.
