Govs’ Cup shifts to Ynares Antipolo following NAS issues

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is moving its Season 50 Governors’ Cup games to Antipolo on Tuesday as the Ninoy Aquino Stadium remains unavailable due to ongoing venue issues.

The league announced the venue change on Sunday, with the arena inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila expected to undergo repairs.

A roof leak disrupted the Magnolia-Meralco game at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium last Friday. Play eventually resumed, with the Hotshots pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 105-88 victory.

The incident came a week after heavy flooding along M. Adriatico Street and parts of the stadium’s parking area left fans, players, and team personnel stranded during the July 28 gameday.

Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium was also postponed because of severe weather conditions.

Phoenix and Rain or Shine were set to battle for the Group B lead, with both teams entering the day at 4-2, while Barangay Ginebra and Blackwater were also in contention.

The PBA said an updated schedule for the postponed games will be announced through its official channels.

Tuesday’s doubleheader at the Ynares Center in Antipolo will feature Terrafirma against Converge before NLEX takes on TNT in another matchup between two teams led by former MVPs.
