Fenner Drops 31 as Weavers Hand Huskers First Loss in Nearly Two Months, Extend Streak to Nine
DJ Fenner put on a masterclass as the Abra Solid North Weavers defeated the previously unbeaten Quezon Huskers, 82-77, on Monday at the Ynares Sports Arena in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season.
Fenner led the way with a game-high 31 points, including five three-pointers, along with seven rebounds and five assists, powering the defending champions to their ninth consecutive victory.
The win improved Abra’s record to 11-1, allowing them to climb ahead of San Juan in the North Division and move closer to division leader Caloocan. Quezon dropped to 9-1, seeing its nine-game winning streak snapped but still holding the top spot in the South Division.
The former UNLV star got hot early, scoring 16 points in the first quarter to help the Weavers take a 29-25 lead. He then delivered the decisive blows, hitting two clutch free throws with 37.4 seconds left to push the lead to seven points and earn Best Player of the Game honors.
Dave Ildefonso, back from injury, contributed 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds. Drex Delos Reyes added nine points and five boards, while Mike Ayonayon and Raven Gonzales each scored six points.
Quezon briefly took the lead at 57-56 midway through the third quarter, but Abra responded with a strong run to close the period and entered the fourth quarter ahead 70-65.
The Weavers struggled from the free-throw line (13-of-29) but made up for it with sharp outside shooting, going 11-of-24 from three-point range.
The Huskers made a late push, cutting the deficit to three points (78-75) on free throws by Will McAloney and back-to-back buckets from Jolo Manansala. Raven Gonzales answered with a key inside score, and Fenner sealed the win with his clutch free throws.
Cedric Manzano paced Quezon with 16 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Judel Fuentes also had 16 points, while Cyrus Tabi added 11 points.
In the other game, the Pasay Voyagers cruised past the Bacolod Masskaras, 100-78, to improve to 8-6. Christian Fajarito recorded a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists), while Mark Parks and Rence Alcoriza each scored 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Bacolod fell to 3-13 despite strong efforts from Marjun Wahing (17 points), Rafael Go (15 points), and Desmond Pryce (14 points).
