King Crunchers extend unbeaten streak to 8 with sweep of Cabstars

Semis-bound Criss Cross continued its merciless march, extending its unbeaten streak to eight games with a flawless sweep of AEP-Cabstars, 25-12, 25-14, 25-13, in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference on Wednesday at the Filoil Centre.

The King Crunchers wasted no time dispatching the Cabstars, building momentum as they prepare for the round-robin semifinals of the Sports Vision-organized tournament, boasting a perfect 8-0 record and a seemingly unstoppable rhythm.

“Sobrang proud ako sa teammates ko kasi talagang ponagtrabahuhan ng bawat isa ‘yung 8-0 na ‘yun,” said Jude Garcia, who finished with 12 points, including four service aces.

“Dun mo talaga makikita ‘yung sacrifices ng bawat isa, ng players, ng coaches, tapos ‘yung management talaga. Sobrang thankful ako na nakuha namin ‘yung gantong record, pero syempre ‘di pa tapos,” he added.

Criss Cross secured another dominant win, controlling the match from start to finish in a one-hour contest. The team imposed its will at the net with 16 kill blocks, while the opposition managed just two. The King Crunchers also held a clear edge in attacks, 41-26, and capitalized from the service line with a 5-0 advantage in aces, underscoring their control throughout the match.

Alche Gupiteo finished with nine points and nine excellent receptions, while Noel Kampton scored 12 points on eight attacks, three blocks, and one ace. Kim Malabunga and Poy Colinares added nine and seven markers, respectively, for Criss Cross. Adrian Villados steered the offense with 16 excellent sets and four points.

The King Crunchers will look to stretch their dominant run to nine games against winless VNS Always Bright Laticrete on Friday at 1 p.m. at the same venue.

Meanwhile, the Cabstars, who were coming off back-to-back wins against 3B and the Griffins, slid to 3-4 but remained in fourth place. Jay Rack De La Noche and Jared Schnake paced AEP-Cabstars, who missed the services of Vince Abrot, with eight points apiece. EJ Casaña delivered 17 excellent sets in the loss, while Vince Lorenzo tallied 23 excellent receptions.

AEP-Cabstars takes on 3B next on Friday at 3 p.m., hoping to get back into the win column and solidify their place in the top four.
