Cool Smashers Reclaim All-Filipino Crown
Creamline didn’t just win a championship—they reaffirmed their dominance in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL)
After a challenging season and an intense Finals series, the Cool Smashers battled past the Cignal Super Spikers in a thrilling five-set showdown, 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25, 15-11, to reclaim the All-Filipino Conference title on Thursday night at a packed Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Before a roaring crowd of 17,358, Creamline showcased both its championship pedigree and unyielding resilience, withstanding momentum swings that turned the match into a test of endurance, composure, and sheer willpower.
The defining moment came in the fifth set, as Tots Carlos stepped up when it mattered most. With the score on a knife's edge, Carlos delivered a pivotal kill and sealed the championship with a crucial block on Vanie Gandler—dousing Cignal’s final attempt and igniting Creamline’s celebration.
But that closing moment only told part of the story.
Cignal refused to go down without a fight, pushing the match to its limits behind the steady scoring of Gandler and Erika Santos. Even in the decisive set, the Super Spikers held an 8-6 lead, threatening to force a Game 3. However, Creamline showed its veteran poise, regrouping and turning the tide in their favor.
Jema Galanza broke through Cignal’s defense, while Jia de Guzman orchestrated crucial plays to shift momentum back to the Cool Smashers. A series of errors from Cignal helped Creamline regain control, and from there, the match was never in doubt.
Pangs Panaga also made a crucial defensive stop on Gandler, helping set up the final push as Creamline transformed a tense finish into a decisive statement of its dynasty.
De Guzman, who delivered 31 excellent sets, couldn’t hide her emotions after the victory.
“All the emotions right now, I can’t really describe it. We really worked for this—it was a five-set battle. Cignal made it tough for us, but we pushed through until the end,” she said.
Bernadeth Pons played a key role in Creamline's championship run, finishing with 22 points, 25 excellent digs, and 15 receptions. Carlos added 18 points, while Galanza and Panaga contributed 12 and 10, respectively.
Libero Jen Nierva, celebrating her first championship with Creamline, found the moment overwhelming after several years of waiting for a Finals return.
Cignal, despite the defeat, pushed the league’s most decorated team to the limit. Gandler led all scorers with 26 points, while Santos added 21 and Tin Tiamzon chipped in 14, keeping the Super Spikers in contention until the very end.
Statistically, Cignal had the edge in attacks, but Creamline capitalized on errors and made the crucial plays when it mattered, converting key points in the final stretch while executing more consistently under pressure.
Ultimately, Creamline’s experience, depth, and championship DNA proved to be the difference. This victory marked the Cool Smashers' 11th PVL title and eighth All-Filipino crown, solidifying their place as the gold standard of the league.
While Cignal may have fallen short, their fierce performance in the Finals signaled their rise as a legitimate contender in the league.
For Creamline, however, the message was clear: the throne was never lost—just momentarily unclaimed.
