Cool Smashers Set Sights on Championship Coronation
Creamline didn’t just take Game 1—they made a statement.
In a dominant sweep lasting just under 90 minutes, the Cool Smashers displayed their championship-caliber poise while exposing Cignal’s lack of Finals experience. The result? A series lead and a clear psychological advantage heading into the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Finals.
As per Casino Plus Sportsbook, Creamline enters Game 2 as the heavy favorite, with expectations for a possible sweep or a four-set victory. The point spread is set at 4.5, and the over/under stands at 182.5, further reinforcing predictions of another controlled performance by the defending champions.
With only one day to recover and adjust, Creamline is on the verge of securing its 11th title—requiring only minor tweaks to seal the deal. Cignal, however, faces a much steeper challenge, needing to reset quickly, make key system adjustments, and rediscover the form that got them this far.
Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where the Cool Smashers aim to clinch the title, while the Super Spikers look to extend the series and keep their historic campaign alive.
Meanwhile, PLDT seeks to sweep Farm Fresh and claim the bronze medal in their best-of-three series, with Game 2 set for 3 p.m. After a competitive opener, PLDT managed a hard-fought 22-25, 25-21, 27-25, 26-28, 15-11 victory.
Creamline head coach Sherwin Meneses sees the quick turnaround as a clear advantage.
“Of course, we’re very happy that we finished it in three sets against Cignal. It’s a huge benefit with only one day to prepare for Game 2,” he said after outwitting counterpart Shaq delos Santos.
The swift 25-22, 25-18, 25-16 win not only saved energy but also gave Creamline the luxury of refining their game plan rather than making major changes. Meneses emphasized that while they’ll address minor mistakes in training, complacency remains the bigger threat.
“We’ll be able to rest properly and train, but the job isn’t done. We’ll work on correcting our lapses… but we can’t afford to be complacent. Cignal won’t back down.”
But Game 1 hinted at a different outcome.
Cignal faltered under the pressure of their first-ever All-Filipino Finals appearance, committing 22 errors—10 more than Creamline—and struggling to match the discipline and rhythm of a team that’s accustomed to this stage.
Creamline’s system was flawless.
Jia de Guzman directed the offense with precision, setting up a red-hot Jema Galanza, Bernadette Pons, and Tots Carlos, while Bea de Leon and Pangs Panaga anchored the frontline. Her ability to keep Cignal off balance was key, forcing them to constantly play catch-up.
Although Gel Cayuna had moments of brilliance, particularly with her signature 1-2 plays, the gap only widened once Creamline found its groove.
“We executed well, and our team chemistry just kept improving,” Meneses said. “Now, in the Finals, the timing is right for that chemistry to shine.”
This chemistry—built through years of Finals experience—could be Creamline’s biggest advantage as they approach a potential title-clinching Game 2.
For Cignal, the road ahead is anything but easy.
“Of course, it’s tough for us,” admitted delos Santos.
With limited time to adjust, the Super Spikers need more than just tactical changes—they must reset both mentally and technically. Reducing errors is a must, but more importantly, they need to return to the style of play that got them to the Finals: calm, aggressive, and system-focused volleyball.
Delos Santos is relying on trust.
“I have to believe in the team and the system… not put too much pressure on ourselves. We just need to play our game,” he said.
If Cignal wants to force a Game 3, they’ll need to stabilize their reception to let Cayuna run the offense, limit unforced errors that gave Creamline momentum, and match the Cool Smashers’ composure point for point. Anything less, and this Finals could be over as quickly as Game 1.
Because right now, Creamline isn’t just playing to win—they’re playing to celebrate.
