Alas Men sweep Myanmar to finish fifth in SEA V Cup

Alas Pilipinas closed out its campaign in the second leg of the 2025 SEA V Cup with a straight-set victory over Myanmar, 28-26, 25-17, 25-23, on Saturday at the Jakarta International Velodrome in Indonesia.

The Filipinos secured a fifth-place finish for the second straight leg after also placing fifth in the tournament's opening stop in Candon, Ilocos Sur, where they likewise defeated Myanmar.

Myanmar provided a stern challenge in the opening set, forcing an extended battle before Alas Pilipinas finally broke through after needing four set points.

With the score tied at 26-all, Lirick Mendoza hammered a down-the-line attack to put the Philippines at set point. Myanmar's Htoo Bhone Myat Aung then sent his next attack long, allowing the Filipinos to seize the opening frame.

Alas Pilipinas carried that momentum into the next two sets, tightening its defense while finding its offensive rhythm to complete the sweep.

Mendoza led the Philippines with 21 points built on 19 attacks, one block, and one service ace.

Ramirez added 11 points, while team captain Lloyd Josafat contributed nine points, including six attacks and three blocks.

Myanmar was paced by Aung Myo Kyaw, who finished with 10 points in the loss.

The victory allowed Alas Pilipinas to end the tournament on a winning note after back-to-back fifth-place finishes in this year's SEA V Cup.
