Weavers’ 48-Game Winning Streak at Stake as Knights Roll Out Youthful Lineup
Defending champion Abra Solid North will put its remarkable 48-game winning streak on the line against a rejuvenated San Juan squad at 8 p.m. on Saturday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 season at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The Weavers have remained unbeaten for over a year, including a four-game sweep of the Quezon Huskers in the 2025 MPBL National Finals and a title-clinching victory over the same squad in the 2026 Preseason Invitationals.
San Juan, meanwhile, is determined to end Abra’s long-standing dominance. The Knights have rebuilt around 6-foot-8 former De La Salle standout and UAAP Finals MVP Mike Phillips, complemented by ex-UP standouts Harold Alarcon, Gerry Abadiano, Terrence Fortea, and Reyland Torres. Additional reinforcements include Perpetual Help products Patrick Sleat and JP Boral, MPBL returnee James Kwekuteye, and mainstays Orlan Wamar, Mike Calisaan, Dexter Maiquez, AC Soberano, and Nikko Panganiban.
Abra counters with size and depth, led by 6-foot-6 DJ Fenner and Tucker Molina, 6-foot-7 Raven Gonzales, 6-foot-8 Drex Delos Reyes, and stalwart defenders John Uduba and Ryan Batino. The Weavers also possess scoring firepower with reigning MVP Dave Ildefonso, his brother Shaun, Encho Serrano, Mike Ayonayon, and Kascius Small-Martin.
In their last clash during the 2026 Preseason, Abra narrowly escaped San Juan with a 76-72 win.
According to sportsbook odds, San Juan enters as a 5-point underdog, with the over/under set at 162.0.
