Warriors Dominate Tamaraws, Extend Winning Streak
The Gensan Warriors triumphed over the Mindoro Tamaraws, 87-70, on Friday in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season at One Arena in Cainta, Rizal.
Led by Anton Eusebio, a 6-foot-5 Fil-Canadian forward from College of St. Benilde, Gensan surged ahead in the third quarter, building a commanding 78-58 lead and cruising to their second consecutive victory. With the win, they join the San Juan Knights and Caloocan Batang Kankaloo at the top of the early standings.
Eusebio was the standout performer, finishing with 20 points, four rebounds, and two steals to claim Best Player of the Game honors. He outshone teammates Marwin Dionisio (12 points, 3 rebounds), Kyle Tolentino (11 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists), and Nelo Santos (10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists).
Mindoro came out strong, leading 23-22 after the first quarter. However, Gensan seized control early in the second, launching a 12-point run to take a 32-23 lead and never looked back.
The Warriors' superior execution made the difference, committing only 13 turnovers compared to Mindoro’s 20 and capitalizing on those mistakes with a 23-12 advantage in fastbreak points.
Despite the loss, the Tamaraws received strong efforts from JC Recto, who posted 16 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, and Bambam Gamalinda, who contributed 12 points, six rebounds, three steals, and two assists.
