San Juan extends streak, Quezon rebounds with rout of Pasig

The San Juan Knights kept their winning streak alive, while the Quezon Huskers returned to the win column with an emphatic victory on Tuesday in the 2026 Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Season at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

San Juan outlasted Bataan, 102-95, in the second game of the triple-header, while Quezon overwhelmed Pasig City, 93-55, in the nightcap of the round-robin elimination phase of the 27-team, two-division tournament.

Patrick Sleat once again spearheaded the Knights' charge, helping San Juan notch its 10th straight victory and improve to 11-1, keeping pace behind North Division leaders Caloocan (14-1) and Abra (12-1).

Sleat poured in 21 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, while adding eight rebounds and five assists. Mike Calisaan backed him with 18 points and three rebounds, Orlan Wamar contributed 12 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, and Gerry Abadiano chipped in 11 points.

Despite the loss, Bataan (5-9) had five players score in double figures. Hubert Cani paced the Risers with 18 points, six assists, and four rebounds, while Chris Javier added 17 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Yves Sazon, Joey Barcuma, and Alfred Flores each finished with 13 points.

In the nightcap, the Huskers wasted no time taking command as they raced to a 51-21 halftime lead before stretching the margin to as much as 45 points, 87-42, midway through the fourth quarter. The convincing win improved the two-time defending South Division champions to 9-2 after back-to-back defeats.

Christian Pagaran led Quezon with 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists, while Cedric Manzano turned in an all-around effort of 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals.

Jolo Manansala and Will McAloney added 11 points each, with Manansala also collecting seven rebounds and two assists, while McAloney chipped in three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Michael Canete also scored 11 points and dished out six assists.

Pasig dropped to 7-6, with Jerome Garcia providing the lone bright spot after recording 12 points and four rebounds.

The MPBL resumes on Wednesday at One Arena in Cainta, where Sarangani faces Negros at 6 p.m. before Valenzuela takes on Marikina at 8 p.m.
