PVL cancels Santiago On Tour doubleheader due to Tropical Depression Maymay

The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has cancelled its On Tour Showdown scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Santiago Sports Arena in Santiago City because of the effects of Tropical Depression Maymay (Kujira).

The league said the decision was made to ensure the safety of fans, players, team personnel, officials, and everyone involved in the event.

The cancelled doubleheader was set to feature ZUS Coffee against PLDT Home Fiber in the opening match, followed by Capital1 taking on Creamline.

Travel concerns also factored into the decision, with flights to Isabela suspended since Thursday due to the tropical depression.

PVL president Ricky Palou expressed disappointment over the cancellation but stressed that public safety remains the league's top priority.

"We sincerely apologize to our fans in Santiago City and the rest of Isabela who were looking forward to the matches," Palou said.

"While we share everyone's disappointment, the safety of our fans, players, coaches, officials, and staff must always come first. We appreciate everyone's understanding and support during this time."

Palou also assured local volleyball fans that the league remains committed to bringing PVL action to Santiago City.

"We made a promise to bring the PVL to Santiago City, and we intend to keep that promise. Although we were forced to cancel this weekend's games because of circumstances beyond our control, we look forward to returning to Santiago during the upcoming PVL All-Filipino Conference," he added.

The PVL also announced that all tickets purchased for the cancelled matches will be refunded. Details regarding the refund process will be released through Ticketmax's official channels.
