On March 8, BrooklynNets forward Michael Porter Jr. stated in a recent interview that he is completely against tanking.

“They have to do something about the tanking,” Porter said. “I don’t like teams purposely tanking just to get a good draft pick. I think throwing away an entire NBA season is not the right way to go about it.”

“It’s unethical for the game, and people pay a lot of money to watch the best players in the world compete against each other. So you want to see every team competing as hard as they can each and every night. It’s tough to watch when some teams do what they’re doing right now.”

“I’ve seen people come up with some ideas on how to change it. But I think you can tank an entire season and not even get the draft pick you want. Even if you do get the draft pick you want, that player might not live up to the hype, and your team could set itself back years,” Porter said.

“So I understand rebuilding, but I think there’s an ethical way and an unethical way. Hopefully, they can make a change in that regard. I just think the best players should be on the court every single night.”
