Lady Kankaloo Eye Repeat Win Against Queenpin
Fresh off their breakthrough victory to end the first round, Caloocan hopes to keep the momentum going as it faces struggling Pasig in the 2026 Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL) on Wednesday at the Victoria Sports Tower Basketball Court.
The Lady Kankaloo finally entered the win column after opening the tournament with four straight losses, defeating the Queenpin, 77-71, last May 13 to snap their skid and regain confidence.
Now carrying a 1-4 record, Caloocan aims to complete a season sweep of Pasig and secure back-to-back wins when the two squads clash at 4 p.m. in the Aktive-backed tournament.
Head coach JP Bernal plans to stick with the formula that delivered their first victory, emphasizing consistency in execution and trusting the players and plays that proved effective.
“Siguro stick lang kami kung ano ‘yung nag-work. Kung ano ‘yung gumagana na play, kung ano ‘yung gumagana na players, stick lang siguro tayo dun. Basta maging open kami, lalo ‘yung mga players,” Bernal said.
Caloocan leaned on a balanced attack in their previous meeting, with Sofia Felisarta, Janine Pontejos, and Rejoice Adlawan all scoring 15 points to lead the Lady Kankaloo past the Queenpin. Bernal hopes for another strong collective effort as the team looks to sustain its resurgence.
Pasig, meanwhile, enters the rematch eager to halt its own four-game slide and regain momentum after a difficult stretch in the tournament. The Queenpin dropped to 1-5 following an 82-74 defeat to RK Hoops–Quezon City 10ACT, a loss they hope to bounce back from quickly.
Despite the setback, Pasig drew encouragement from LJ Miranda’s standout performance of 32 points and 12 rebounds. The Queenpin will once again rely on Miranda, alongside Gabi Bade and Lee Sario, to lead the charge.
In the second game, the Sparks (4-1) square off against RK Hoops–Quezon City (2-4). Akari-Rizal dominated their first-round encounter, 84-51, but Quezon City heads into the rematch with renewed confidence after its morale-boosting win over Pasig.
Raiza Palmera-Dy, Allana Lim, and Mar Prado are expected to lead the Sparks once more, while RK Hoops–Quezon City will count on Tantoy Ferrer as it seeks another upset victory.
