Hotshots and Beermen Eye Redemption in PBA Showdown
Get ready for an intense battle when the Magnolia Hotshots face off against the San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup this Sunday at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m., with both teams eager to bounce back from recent defeats in a matchup between two heavyweights who have previously contended for the midseason conference title.
The Hotshots, coming off a tough 91–89 loss to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the latest edition of Manila Clasico, are looking to recover after falling short in the final moments. A clutch basket from RJ Abarrientos sealed the Hotshots' fate, preventing Coach Chito Victolero's squad from securing their third straight win. The loss also marked their fourth defeat in six games this season.
Meanwhile, the Beermen are nursing their own wounds after a narrow 116–112 defeat to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last Wednesday. Despite trailing by as many as 25 points, they mounted a valiant fourth-quarter comeback, spearheaded by Marcio Lassiter. However, Rain or Shine had just enough left in the tank to finish strong. San Miguel now looks to bounce back and improve to a 4–3 record in the standings.
In terms of betting, the Beermen are favored with a -4.0 spread, with the over/under set at 203.5 points.
Meanwhile, at 7:30 p.m., Barangay Ginebra San Miguel will take on Phoenix, with the Kings aiming to build their first winning streak of the conference. Head coach Tim Cone is excited about facing off with Phoenix's Charles Tiu for the first time, though the Kings are mindful of their opponents' determination after a tough loss.
Phoenix was routed by the NLEX Road Warriors, 120–102, a week ago, and will be looking to bounce back after being overwhelmed by a balanced NLEX attack led by Deschon Winston.
The Kings are favored to win, with the Casino Plus sportsbook setting Phoenix as +5.0 underdogs and the total points over/under at 199.0.
