Gilas Women bow out in Batam quarterfinals, finish eighth

Gilas Pilipinas Women ended its campaign in the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women's Series–Batam Stop with a 15-11 quarterfinal loss to Thailand on Friday at Alun-Alun Batam Centre in Indonesia.

Despite the defeat, the Filipinas secured an eighth-place finish, earning valuable ranking points that lifted them to 26th in the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series standings and moved them ahead of Manila in the global rankings.

The Philippines kept pace with Thailand early, with the teams tied at 8-8 midway through the contest.

Thailand pulled away behind Rattiyakorn Udomsuk, who scored three consecutive baskets, before Supavadee Kunchuan drilled a two-pointer to extend the lead to 12-8.

Mikka Cacho and Elizabeth Means attempted to rally the Filipinas, but timely baskets from Kunchuan and Warinthon Summat sealed Thailand's victory and a semifinal berth against China.

Cacho led Gilas Pilipinas with six points, while Camille Clarin added three. Means and Tantoy Ferrer chipped in one point each.

Udomsuk paced Thailand with eight points, while Kunchuan scored six, all from beyond the arc.

Despite the quarterfinal exit, Gilas Women produced an encouraging campaign in Batam.

The Filipinas opened the tournament with victories over Vietnam, 21-11, and Slovakia, 16-15, in the qualifying round to advance to the main draw.

They then fell to France, 21-9, before bouncing back with a 17-15 victory over Japan to book a place in the knockout stage.

Gilas Pilipinas Women will next compete in the Tokyo stop of the FIBA 3x3 Women's Series, which begins on Aug. 1.
