Clarin Returns as Gilas Women Fall Short in 3x3 Chengdu Qualifiers
Camille Clarin made her long-awaited return to international competition, suiting up for Gilas Pilipinas Women in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series 2026 Chengdu Opener on Friday, following a year-long recovery from a severe knee injury.
Clarin had been sidelined since tearing the ACL in her right knee during the previous 3x3 Asia Cup, an injury that forced her to miss nearly an entire season.
In her comeback, the guard-forward showed glimpses of her scoring prowess, posting two points in Gilas’ 17–8 loss to Brazil before bouncing back with four points in a 21–10 win over New Zealand during the qualifying round.
Despite the mixed results, the Filipinas were unable to advance to the main draw. Brazil topped the qualifying pool, narrowly defeating New Zealand 13–11 to sweep the group and secure progression.
Clarin was supported by Mikka Cacho, Tantoy Ferrer, and Gabi Bade—members of the same core that previously captured silver for the Philippines at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya. Against New Zealand, Cacho and Bade led with six points each, while Ferrer added five, powering the team’s lone victory of the campaign.
Gilas Pilipinas Women will now turn their attention to their next assignment: the inaugural Manila stop of the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series, scheduled for May 7–8 at the SM Mall of Asia.
