Chameleons, Chargers set for do-or-die clash as favorites

With their semifinal dreams on the line, Nxled and Akari gear up for crucial, do-or-die matches against rising opponents Galeries Tower and Choco Mucho as the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference enters its high-stakes phase at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Saturday.

At this stage, where a single mistake can end a season, past records and paper advantages hold little value. What matters most now is composure under pressure, timely adjustments, and the sheer determination to survive.

Nxled, which barely missed an outright spot in the Qualifying Round, faces a tough test against the red-hot Galeries Tower at 4 p.m. The Highrisers come into the match full of confidence after a stunning straight-set win over Capital1.

According to Casino Plus, the Chameleons are favored to either sweep or win in four sets, with a 7.5-point margin over Galeries Tower and an over/under set at 176.5 points.

Despite Nxled's star power with Brooke Van Sickle, Myla Pablo, and MJ Phillips, their campaign has been inconsistent—starting strong with a 3-0 record, followed by a four-game losing streak, and a late resurgence in the prelims. The big question: can they maintain this momentum or will they crumble under the pressure?

Galeries Tower, however, has already proven it can take down favored teams. If Jean Asis, Roselle Baliton, Aiza Pontillas, and Gayle Pascual can repeat their explosive performances, another upset may be on the horizon.

“All throughout this season, our play hasn’t been bad. We just lacked maybe a little more camaraderie and familiarity between the players. If we can build that, we’ll play even better,” said Galeries Tower head coach Clarence Esteban.

The 6:30 p.m. showdown between Akari and Choco Mucho carries just as much weight, with neither team feeling completely comfortable despite their past encounters. Choco Mucho had the upper hand in their previous meeting, but knockout games are often unpredictable. With Sisi Rondina, Eya Laure, and Kat Tolentino leading the charge, the Flying Titans are armed with proven scoring power.

“Siyempre, we also recognize that we’re here because of our own efforts. We just worked hard and we still really want it... We’re going to push for it and make it to where we want to be as a team,” Rondina said.

But Akari is not without its own firepower. Led by Ivy Lacsina, Eli Soyud, and Grethcel Soltones, and reinforced by the strong middle duo of Fifi Sharma and Ced Domingo, the Chargers have both the skill and the mentality to flip the script.

Casino Plus has Akari slightly favored to either sweep or win in four sets, projecting them as -1.5 point favorites with an over/under set at 181.5. The tight point spread suggests a nail-biting contest, while the high over/under points to a potentially high-scoring affair.
