Boatwright's Beermen Return Fuels Push for Back-to-Back Wins
San Miguel and Bennie Boatwright are back in sync after a successful reunion, and the Beermen are hoping to keep the momentum rolling as they aim for consecutive wins in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Commissioner's Cup.
The Beermen, alongside their returning import, will look to secure back-to-back victories when they face a Blackwater squad eager to break out of its slump this Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Game time is set for 5:15 p.m., with San Miguel coming off a dramatic 98-94 victory over Cady Lalanne and NLEX last Sunday in Antipolo. The Beermen fought back from a 15-point deficit, with Boatwright's stellar performance in the clutch leading the charge.
Boatwright, back for another stint after the Justin Patton experiment fell short, exploded for 41 points and 11 rebounds, leading SMB to its first win after snapping a rare two-game losing streak.
Now, the Beermen are focused on maintaining their momentum as they enter their matchup against the Bossing, with San Miguel favored to win by a significant margin (-14.5) according to the sportsbook. The over/under for total points scored in the game is set at 207.5.
Meanwhile, Blackwater (1-6) enters the game still searching for answers. The Bossing are on a four-game losing streak, with their most recent defeat coming in a 125-108 blowout loss to Phoenix. Blackwater is hoping to end its dry spell and keep its playoff hopes alive, especially after giving head coach Pat Aquino his first win.
Later in the evening at 7:30 p.m., TNT faces Converge in what promises to be a compelling matchup. TNT comes into the game riding a three-game winning streak, buoyed by the incredible play of Bol Bol, who scored 50 points to lead his team past Titan Ultra, 97-92, in Montalban.
On the other side, Converge (2-6) will have their eyes on Mikey Williams, as the former Finals MVP faces his old team for the first time since leaving TNT. Williams helped the Tropang 5G to two championships before his messy departure in 2023, and his return will be highly anticipated.
Converge, still fighting to stay in playoff contention, hopes to bounce back after their bid for a second straight win was thwarted by Magnolia last Sunday. The FiberXers must win as many games as possible in their remaining elimination-round matchups to keep their postseason hopes alive.
The sportsbook also favors TNT in this one, with the defending conference champions (5-2) favored to win by -5 points, and the over/under set at 203.5 for total points scored.
Currently sharing third place with Meralco and Ginebra, TNT can move into a tie for second place with a win, pushing them closer to a top-four finish as they continue their push for a higher seed. Coach Chot Reyes and his squad will be determined to secure the win and strengthen their position.
