Ateneo returns to action in Pinoyliga Big Dance
Ateneo de Manila University is set to make its preseason return after being included in the 28-team field for the upcoming Pinoyliga Big Dance tournament.
The Blue Eagles received the No. 21 seed and will open their campaign against Our Lady of Fatima University.
If the matchup pushes through, it will mark Ateneo's first preseason appearance since its 2026 Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup game against Adamson University on June 6.
Just two days later, Ateneo's team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora ended in tragedy, claiming the lives of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
Following the incident, the Blue Eagles withdrew from all remaining preseason commitments, including their annual overseas training camp.
According to the tournament schedule, Ateneo is slated to face the Phoenix on Aug. 16 at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The UAAP has yet to announce a decision regarding the school's participation in Season 89.
Adamson University is the only other UAAP program competing in the Big Dance.
The NCAA will be represented by Lyceum of the Philippines University, Mapúa University, De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, Jose Rizal University, and the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA.
The rest of the tournament field consists of colleges and universities from across Luzon.
The Pinoyliga Big Dance is scheduled to begin on Aug. 9.
