The Czech Chance Liga, known historically and still commonly referred to as the Czech First League or Fortuna Liga due to sponsorship, is the top tier of professional football in the Czech Republic. It is a highly competitive league known for its technical style, excellent youth academies, and as a key exporter of talent to Europe's top five leagues. Founded in 1993 following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the league is headquartered in Prague and currently features 16 teams. The format involves a 30-match regular season where each team plays each other twice, followed by a championship group (top six) and a relegation group (bottom ten) playing further matches to decide the final standings. The champion qualifies for the UEFA Champions League. Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague are the historic powerhouses, with Viktoria Plzeň also a major force in recent years.
