The Criollos de Caguas continued their strong form in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) with a convincing 101-88 victory over the Aguada Santeros at the Cancha de Caguas. In a game that featured high-paced offense and physical defense, Caguas took control in the second quarter and never looked back, improving their record to 4-2 on the season.

Key to Victory: Balanced Scoring

Caguas had five players reach double figures, led by guard Javier Colón (24 points, 8 assists). The Criollos shot 52% from the field and made 11 three-pointers, with forward Carlos Rivera hitting four from beyond the arc en route to 19 points. Aguada kept pace early thanks to Marcus Santos (27 points, 6 rebounds), but the Santeros struggled to contain Caguas’s inside-out game in the second half.

Defensive Adjustments

The turning point came late in the second quarter when Caguas coach José Ortiz switched to a zone defense that forced three quick turnovers and turned a one-point lead into a nine-point halftime advantage. Aguada never got closer than eight points in the second half, as Caguas’s bench provided 28 points to maintain the cushion. Center Luis Maldonado added a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The loss drops Aguada to 2-4, while Caguas moves into a tie for third place in the BSN standings. The Criollos will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Santurce Crabbers next week.
