Paris Saint-Germain request Lens match postponement due to Liverpool tie
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has received a request from Saint-Germain to postpone their upcoming Ligue 1 match against RC Lens, scheduled for Saturday, April 11. This request is due to PSG's Champions League quarter-final ties against Liverpool, with the first leg on April 8 and the second on April 14.
The PSGvs.Lens fixture is a crucial domestic clash, with only one point separating league-leaders PSG and second-place Lens. However, Lens strongly opposes the postponement, arguing it would disadvantage their title challenge. Their schedule is further complicated by a Coupe de France semi-final on April 21.
The LFP , which has the final decision, typically supports French clubs in European competitions. A similar postponement request from Strasbourg for a Europa Conference League-related fixture was also noted. Lens's head coach, Pierre Sage, publicly disagreed with the potential postponement, referencing his team's own recent congested schedule and acknowledging that while rest helps performance, competitive clubs must manage multiple competitions.
In a previous Champions League round, PSG was granted a weekend off between matches against Chelsea, who played a league game, with PSG progressing 8-2 on aggregate.
