MPBL targets Asian expansion
Manny Pacquiao's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is expanding its international presence, having previously held games in the Middle East and Canada, and is now aiming to establish a footprint across Asia.
During a press conference at Gameville Ball Park in Mandaluyong City, Pacquiao announced that his legal team has finalized the registration of the league's official international business name, which will be "MPBL International."
The event marked the official signing of SportsPlus as the MPBL's main backer and title sponsor for the 2026 season. Pacquiao was joined at the signing by SportsPlus president and CEO Andre Uy and MPBL commissioner Emerson Oreta.
Andre Uy stated that the partnership represents a significant step in supporting Philippine sports and empowering local talent, emphasizing SportsPlus's belief in collaborating with platforms like the MPBL that create opportunities for athletes and connect the game with communities nationwide.
Commissioner Emerson Oreta praised the league's new partnership with the country's largest gaming platform, expressing pride in working with an organization dedicated to the growth of sports in the Philippines. He added that with SportsPlus's support, the league is confident in further strengthening its operations and continuing to provide avenues for Filipino players to showcase their talents.
