Manila Gilas bows out in Ulaanbaatar quarterfinals after loss to Germany
Manila Gilas saw its campaign in the 2026 FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series – Ulaanbaatar Stop come to an end after suffering a 20-5 defeat to Germany in the quarterfinals on Friday at Sukhbaatar Main Square.
Ranked third in the tournament, Germany imposed its will from the opening possession, storming to an 11-3 lead before completing the one-sided victory.
Kaye Pingol led the Philippine side with three points, while Ann Pingol and Tin Cayabyab added a point each. Victoria Poros spearheaded Germany with eight points, while Ama Gegbeon contributed six.
Despite the quarterfinal exit, Manila Gilas turned in an encouraging campaign behind the Pingol sisters, Cayabyab, and Sam Harada.
The Filipinas earned their place in the main draw by advancing through the qualifying round, where they defeated Lion City, 15-5, before dispatching Sukhbaatar, 21-13, to secure a berth in Pool D.
Manila Gilas carried its momentum into the group stage, pulling off a 19-11 upset of host Mongolia in its opening game. Although the team later fell to China, 21-13, the victory over Mongolia proved enough to book a spot in the knockout phase.
Following its quarterfinal finish, Manila Gilas climbed to 30th in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series team standings with 45 points, adding to the 10 points it earned during the Manila Stop earlier in the season.
