Dortmund police respond after weekend clashes with Bayern Munich fans
During the recent Der Klassiker match between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, clashes occurred between FC Bayern ultras and Dortmund police prior to the game. This led to a boycott by a segment of the traveling Bayern fans. The ultras blamed the police for the incident, which reportedly involved the use of pepper spray and batons.
In response, Deputy Chief of Police Achim Stankowitz disputed the fans' claims. He stated that video evidence, which will be submitted for criminal proceedings, clearly shows a coordinated and planned attempt by troublemakers to enter the stadium without security checks and force their way in. Stankowitz emphasized that police action was a direct response to these criminal acts.
Stankowitz further commented that over 80,000 attendees can peacefully enjoy a football match, and only a tiny fraction, as evidenced by the videos, resorted to violence. He criticized this group for subsequently blaming the police for upholding the rule of law, calling it a demonstration of a lack of self-reflection and a misguided sense of self-importance. Criminal proceedings are now forthcoming as a result of the incident.
