XM Hai Phong FC 4-2 Becamex Ho Chi Minh City: Thriller at Lach Tray Stadium
XM Hai Phong FC stormed back into winning ways with a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Becamex Ho Chi Minh City in the Vietnam National Champion League on 16 May 2026. The match, played at the vibrant Lach Tray Stadium, saw the hosts overturn an early deficit with a devastating attacking display that left the visitors chasing shadows for much of the second half.
First Half: A Topsy-Turvy Opening
Becamex Ho Chi Minh City stunned the home crowd by taking the lead inside just four minutes. A swift move down the right ended with a cross from Nguyen Cong Phuong that was turned in by striker Hoang Duc at the near post. The early goal rattled Hai Phong, but they gradually found their rhythm. In the 18th minute, midfielder Nguyen Hai Huy equalised with a powerful strike from outside the box after a corner was cleared. The game became end-to-end, and in the 33rd minute, Hai Phong took the lead for the first time. A brilliant throughball from Doan Van Hau sent winger Le Van Thang clear, and he finished coolly into the far corner. However, the visitors struck back just before halftime. A defensive mix-up allowed Becamex star striker Nguyen Anh Duc to tap in from close range, sending the teams into the interval level at 2-2.
Second Half: Hai Phong Take Control
The second half belonged entirely to XM Hai Phong FC. They came out with renewed energy and pinned Becamex inside their own half. In the 54th minute, captain Nguyen Van Toan restored the lead with a clinical header from a corner. The goal seemed to deflate the visitors, and Hai Phong pushed for more. The killer blow came in the 72nd minute when substitute Tran Minh Tuan raced onto a long ball, held off a defender, and slotted past the goalkeeper to make it 4-2. From there, Hai Phong comfortably saw out the match, with goalkeeper Nguyen Thanh Binh making two excellent saves to preserve the two-goal margin.
Standout Players and Season Context
Le Van Thang was a constant threat down the left flank, providing both a goal and an assist. For Becamex, Hoang Duc continued his fine form but lacked support from his teammates after the break.
With this win, Hai Phong move into the top three of the V-League standings, just three points behind leaders Hanoi FC. Becamex Ho Chi Minh City, meanwhile, slip to mid-table and will need to address their defensive fragility if they are to challenge for silverware.
