The Costa Rica Primera División, officially known as the Liga Promerica for sponsorship reasons, is the top tier of professional football in Costa Rica and one of the most respected leagues in Central America. Founded in 1921, it is one of the oldest leagues in the region and is headquartered in San José. The competition is divided into two annual tournaments: the Apertura (Opening) and Clausura (Closing).
