Weavers remain unbeaten on top, snap Biñan’s 13-game winning streak

Defending champion Abra Solid North continued its dominant run in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) 2026 Season after holding off Biñan Tatak Gel, 63-53, on Saturday at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.

DJ Fenner sparked a crucial seven-point run in the final five minutes as the Abra Weavers turned a close contest into a 60-51 advantage, securing their 18th victory in 19 games during the round-robin elimination phase of the 26-team tournament.

The win extended Abra’s winning streak to 16 games and kept the Weavers firmly on top of the North Division standings ahead of Caloocan (18-2) and San Juan (16-2).

Biñan threatened to complete a comeback after Renzo Subido’s three-pointer trimmed the deficit to 51-49, but reigning MVP Dave Ildefonso responded with a triple of his own to restore Abra’s cushion.

Marc Pingris cut the gap to 54-51 with an inside basket, but Fenner took control in the closing minutes. He hit a jumper, Shaun Ildefonso added another basket, and Fenner connected on another mid-range shot with 3:41 remaining to seal the victory.

The loss ended Biñan’s 13-game winning streak and dropped the Heroes to 16-4, keeping them third in the South Division behind Batangas City (15-3) and Quezon Province (14-2).

Ildefonso posted 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks to earn Best Player of the Game honors for the third straight game. Fenner added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Jake Figueroa contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Raven Gonzales also played a key role with five points, nine rebounds, and three blocks, including two crucial rejections on Pingris in the final minutes as Abra held Biñan to only two points during the closing stretch.

Cabanero led Biñan with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. Kenny Rocacurva added eight points, nine rebounds, and two steals, while Michael Mabulac finished with eight points and three rebounds.

In the second game, Meycauayan Marilao Gems defeated Parañaque Patriots, 91-80.

The Gems improved to 11-9 behind Jimboy Pasturan’s 22 points, including six three-pointers. Agem Miranda added 16 points, nine assists, and four rebounds, while Jayson Apolonio chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists.

Parañaque fell to 2-21 despite Dom Matillano’s 25 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. Marlon Monte added 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists, while James Mangahas contributed 16 points.

The MPBL resumes on Monday at the Mandaluyong College of Science and Technology Gym with Mindoro facing Bulacan at 3 p.m., Cebu battling Quezon at 5 p.m., and Quezon City taking on Gensan at 7 p.m.
