Stephen Holt shakes off offensive struggles to propel Ginebra to ‘miraculous’ win
Stephen Holt hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to lift Barangay Ginebra to a 99-98 victory over Converge in the PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals on December 29 at the Araneta Coliseum.
The clutch shot secured Ginebra's place in the semifinals, overcoming a twice-to-win disadvantage and marking their eighth consecutive conference reaching the final four.
Holt, who had struggled offensively throughout the game, made the decisive shot after the initial play for RJ Abarrientos was disrupted. He finished the game with 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.
In post-game comments, Holt emphasized his desire to win and step up for his team, praising their collective spirit and resilience through a season of adversity.
The victory highlighted Ginebra's fighting character, as they persevered despite key veterans fouling out in regulation and facing a game that seemed nearly lost.
