Sisi Rondina shares struggles adjusting from sand to indoor
Sisi Rondina, a Southeast Asian Games beach volleyball gold medalist, has openly discussed the significant challenge of readjusting to indoor volleyball. After missing two conferences with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, she made her return in the 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference, leading her team to a win over the Akari Chargers with 16 points.
Despite her strong performance, Rondina revealed her adaptation period was rushed. She stated it was a real struggle, as her planned two-month adjustment was cut short when she learned the tournament was starting in January, forcing her to move directly from her adaptation phase into competition without taking a vacation.
Her transition was further complicated by her prior commitment to the Alas Pilipinas women’s beach volleyball team, where she helped win a historic SEA Games gold medal. She had only one day off after that victory before beginning her indoor volleyball readjustment, which fueled her determination to return and perform well.
Back with the Flying Titans, Rondina has proven to be a reliable offensive player, reuniting with former UST teammate Eya Laure. She expressed that what she missed most during her absence was the guidance of coach Dante Alinsunurin, particularly his patient instruction and the comfort of hearing Tagalog again after months of English.
Coach Alinsunurin, for his part, has adopted a supportive and patient approach to Rondina's adjustment. He emphasized there is no pressure on her, stating he allows her the space she needs as long as she attends training. He focuses on providing guidance and professional support, being patient while players work through their adjustments and readiness.
