ANTIPOLO — TNT and Magnolia are under pressure to deliver as they aim to secure their spots in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Both teams have put themselves in favorable positions after forcing higher-seeded opponents into do-or-die matches following last Wednesday’s quarterfinal openers at the Ynares Center.

According to TigerScore sportsbook, as of 1 p.m. today, TNT and Magnolia are both +2.5 underdogs against their lower-seeded rivals.

The Tropang 5G pushed top-seeded NLEX to a knockout game, while the Hotshots are set to do the same against fourth-ranked Meralco.

Chot Reyes and the defending conference champions prepared early in the eliminations for the possibility of needing back-to-back wins to extend their title defense. Their plan worked, even after entering the playoffs on a three-game losing streak, with strong performances from Roger Pogoy, Calvin Oftana, and Jayson Castro providing the support that Bol Bol needed.

“I think this is the first game in the whole conference that we had those three other guys in double figures. Hindi magsabay-sabay na maganda ang laro ni Calvin, Roger, and Jayson eh,” Reyes said.

The team hopes to replicate—or surpass—that output in their most important game yet against a Road Warriors squad determined to correct mistakes from their previous matchup.

Fouls will be a key focus for Coach Jong Uichico and NLEX, after committing 27 fouls in the prior game, including 17 in the first half, which hindered their momentum. Robert Bolick fouled out with 4:33 remaining, leaving the team without its closer as TNT finished strong behind the 7-foot-3 former NBA player.

Despite the setback, 10-2 NLEX has one more opportunity to capitalize on its twice-to-beat advantage. “Ganun talaga ang playoffs. You make mistakes, review, and adjust. Then, you hope for the best in the next game,” Uichico said.

Game time for the TNT–NLEX clash is 7:30 p.m., following the Meralco–Magnolia opener at 5:15 p.m., setting the stage for an all-MVP showdown in the final game of a playoff trilogy that began in the elimination round on May 10 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

While Meralco holds the fourth seed and a win-once incentive, Magnolia has leveled the series with two consecutive victories, including a 95-89 win in Game Two after an initial 93-76 triumph. Clint Chapman played a key role in repelling Meralco’s late rally from 19 points down, giving Magnolia momentum in a four-game winning streak.

Despite the Hotshots’ confidence, Tenorio emphasizes caution. “We’re playing a great team, a very well-coached team, a very systematic team. I know how they play in the playoffs, with the vets they have right now,” he said, drawing from experience during his Ginebra days.

According to TigerScore, the over/under for the TNT–NLEX game is set at 192.5, while the Meralco–Magnolia matchup has a total point spread of 186.5.
