34 PTS, 12 REB, 1.1s Winner — Wembanyama Ends Spurs’ 7-Year Playoff Wait in Style
Local time, March 20: The San Antonio Spurs edged the Phoenix Suns 101-100 at home as VictorWembanyama nailed a mid-range game-winner with 1.1 seconds remaining. He finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds and 3 steals, leading the Spurs to officially clinch a playoff berth.
Speaking after the game as the Spurs return to the playoffs for the first time in seven years, Wembanyama said: “Our first reaction is pride. We love this moment so much because every single one of us was part of it. But for myself, I try not to make too big a deal out of it because I want to compete hard all 82 regular-season games. I fear becoming complacent.”
“This game was a huge test for us, and even though we passed it, that doesn’t mean we played great,” Wembanyama added. “We were actually below average. This wasn’t a meaningless game. At this stage heading into the Playoffs, facing this kind of test meant a lot to us.”
