Why Did Four-Time Champions Petro Gazz Leave the PVL? What’s Next for Its MVP Players?
The Petro Gazz Angels have officially announced a leave of absence from the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) after seven seasons, pausing their competitive participation. The organization stated the decision was made after careful consideration, emphasizing volleyball's central role in its identity.
Since joining the PVL in 2018, the Angels established a highly successful franchise, winning four championships—including two titles in the 2025 season. They leave as the league's second-winningest team, having recently secured their first All-Filipino Conference title and a third Reinforced Conference crown. The team also developed national team-caliber players and helped shape the league's competitive standards.
While stepping away from league play, Petro Gazz affirmed its continued commitment to volleyball development. During the hiatus, the organization will focus on nurturing future talent and supporting the wider PVL ecosystem, including recommending its players, coaches, and staff to other teams like Nxled.
With the leave in effect, all Petro Gazz players—whether under active or expired contracts—are now free agents and can sign with any PVL team. Notable players expected to enter free agency include three-time MVP Brooke Van Sickle, two-time MVP Myla Pablo, two-time Finals MVP MJ Phillips, rookie Jules Tolentino, and Jonah Sabete.
