PBA: LJay Gonzales embraces ‘Speedy Gonzales’ monicker
The NLEX Road Warriors have nicknamed rookie LJayGonzales "Speedy Gonzales" due to his exceptional speed, a moniker he happily embraces, referencing the classic Looney Tunes character.
In the PBASeason50Commissioner's Cup game on March 15, Gonzales utilized his speed to contribute 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals, helping NLEX secure a 112-105 victory over Magnolia.
Gonzales expressed his happiness and honor at receiving the nickname from his team, particularly from team manager Virgil Villavicencio, especially since it came in just his third official game with the Road Warriors.
After joining NLEX following his contract with an MPBL team, Gonzales has quickly become a key player, contributing to wins in the first two matches of the Commissioner's Cup. Coach Jong Uichico noted that Gonzales adds a "different dimension" to the team's game.
While Gonzales is expected to continue improving, his abilities will face a significant test in NLEX's upcoming game against defending champion TNT on March 22.
