Meralco guard Chris Newsome has been diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his left knee, casting significant doubt on his availability for the crucial Game 5 of the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals against TNT. Newsome revealed the injury following his team's loss on Sunday, stating he is undergoing recovery and taking necessary precautions to return to the court.

The injury occurred during Game 3 last Friday. According to Newsome, the initial medical assessment indicates a recovery timeline of three to five weeks, making a return for Wednesday's Game 5 a considerable challenge. He noted the possibility of a shorter recovery depending on the sprain's severity and will use the extra day between games to intensify his rehabilitation efforts.

Despite the uncertainty, Newsome expressed optimism, citing his ability to walk and stand independently as a positive sign. He vowed to contribute to the team regardless of his playing status, offering vocal leadership and acting as an extra assistant coach from the sidelines if he cannot play physically.

In related news, TNT will also likely be without a key player, as guard RR Pogoy is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and is expected to miss the upcoming game.
