NBA legend sounds off on Luka Doncic-Dennis Schroder incident
Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Dennis Schroder, now with the Sacramento Kings, has been suspended by the NBA for three games. The suspension, announced on January 10, is a result of Schroder "attempting to strike another player." The player involved was later identified as LA Lakers star Luka Doncic.
According to an ESPN report, the incident stemmed from a heated on-court exchange where Doncic used provocative language directed at Schroder. The altercation was ultimately broken up by security and Lakers player Deandre Ayton.
The initial clip of the confrontation showed Doncic taunting Schroder for reportedly turning down a lucrative four-year, $84 million contract extension with the Lakers in 2021. Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce commented on the situation, expressing understanding for Schroder's frustration.
Pierce defended Schroder's reaction, stating, "You're talking about a man's paper!" He emphasized the sensitivity of the topic, comparing the taunt about lost earnings to "messing with somebody's girl." Pierce argued that discussing a significant financial loss is a deeply personal and provocative insult.
