MPBL to hold pre-season in February
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) will conduct a pre-season tournament from early February to mid-March. This decision was made by league founder Manny Pacquiao to enable teams to assess and enhance their rosters ahead of the Eighth Season, as there was no pre-season in 2025.
Newly appointed Commissioner Emmer Oreta announced that there will be no entry fee for the pre-season, and free uniforms for players and staff are being arranged. To reduce costs, all games will be held within Metro Manila.
Additionally, the tournament fee for the pre-season finalists will be waived for the upcoming regular season, while teams that advance to the playoffs will receive a 50 percent discount on their fees.
MPBL CEO Joe Ramos stated that the pre-season will serve as a testing ground for new technical rules, new officials, and will allow league sponsors to trial their activities.
Teams have until Wednesday midnight to confirm their participation, with the rules, guidelines, and schedule to be finalized by the end of the week. The meeting was also attended by former commissioner and current president Kenneth Duremdes, along with team representatives.
