PVL Shakeup: Where Did Maizo-Pontillas Land?
Aiza Maizo-Pontillas has officially joined the Galeries Tower Highrisers for the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2026 season. The franchise officially welcomed the 37-year-old veteran opposite hitter on Monday.
Maizo-Pontillas joins from Petro Gazz, where she played a key role in the team's historic 2025 double championship, winning both the All-Filipino and Reinforced Conferences. Her experience is expected to bolster the Highrisers, a team that has yet to reach the quarterfinals since joining the PVL in 2023.
This move follows Petro Gazz's announcement on January 10 of a leave of absence from the league. The decision led to all players being released as free agents. Petro Gazz is the PVL's second-most successful franchise with four championships, including titles in 2019 and 2022, and the recent 2024-25 All-Filipino and 2025 Reinforced Conference crowns under coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
