Sorloth’s Winner Hands Atletico Victory Over Alaves—but It Was Far From Easy

Alexander Sorloth's second-half goal secured a 1-0 victory for Atletico Madrid against Alaves in La Liga on Sunday. Sorloth scored with a powerful header from a Pablo Barrios cross in the 48th minute, with the ball striking the post before finding the net. This marked his sixth league goal of the season, three of which have been headers.

Alaves, struggling near the relegation zone, failed to equalize despite late chances. The team has now lost seven of its last nine league matches, with its only recent win coming against Real Sociedad in December.

In other Sunday matches, Valencia escaped the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Getafe, thanks to an 84th-minute goal by José Gayà. This ended Valencia's six-game winless streak, while extending Getafe's run to six consecutive matches without a victory.
