Kings Seek Back-to-Back Wins Against Determined Road Warriors
Ginebra is aiming to build on their impressive season debut with another victory as they face a motivated NLEX team in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup this Friday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with the Kings looking to secure their second consecutive win after a dominant 110-93 victory over guest team Macau last week, which handed the latter their third straight loss. The win came under the bright lights of the Big Dome.
The Kings are the favored team according to the Casino Plus sportsbook, with a -6.0 point margin and an over/under set at 195.5 points.

Coach Tim Cone reflected on the slow start they had in the last Philippine Cup, where they only managed two wins in their first six games. He emphasized that he didn’t want history repeating itself, especially given the heightened competition this time around.
"Last conference, we got off to a really slow start," Cone recalled. "Pretty much everybody counted us out. But we fought back and made it to the semis. That was a tough road, and this time, we want to avoid starting slow."
Ginebra came out strong in their opener, dominating the Black Knights. Now, they set their sights on securing back-to-back victories, but they know it won’t be easy against a determined NLEX squad.
The Road Warriors, eager to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Bol Bol and TNT last Sunday, are hungry for a win. Despite starting the midseason tournament with victories over Blackwater and Magnolia, their momentum was halted by Bol Bol’s explosive 40-point, 15-rebound performance that led TNT to a convincing win.
Bol Bol’s standout performance was key to the Tropang 5G’s first win of the season, even without Glenn Khobuntin, who was serving a suspension for an altercation with Jaylen Johnson in a previous game. Despite the loss, TNT’s victory came with a sense of dominance, proving difficult for NLEX to overcome.
On the other side, the Elasto Painters will face Meralco in the early game at 5:15 p.m., and will do so with an all-Filipino lineup after suspensions leave them shorthanded. Meralco enters the game as a heavy favorite at -10.5, with the over/under set at 201.5.
While the odds are stacked against them, Coach Yeng Guiao and his team are confident after their surprising win over the defending champions. They’ve shown that they can compete with top-tier teams, and they'll need to replicate that effort against a well-balanced Meralco squad, which also carries a 2-0 record.
This showdown will be crucial for both teams as they vie for the top spot in the standings, especially with Terrafirma dropping to 3-1 after their loss last Wednesday.
For the Elasto Painters, containing import Marvin Jones will be key, as he’s been a major asset for Meralco, and limiting his impact will be crucial for a chance to stay competitive.
