Juan Gomez de Liaño is PBA Player of the Week ahead of PH Cup playoffs
The Converge FiberXers have secured a twice-to-beat advantage in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup quarterfinals against Barangay Ginebra. This advantage was clinched after a hard-fought 107-95 overtime victory over NLEX on December 17, which gave the team a 7-4 record and the No. 4 playoff seed.
Rookie guard Juan Gomez de Liaño has been instrumental in the team's success, earning the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for December 15-21. In the crucial win against NLEX, he recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and 4 steals.
This playoff position marks a significant milestone for the Converge franchise, as it is their first time entering the playoffs with a twice-to-beat advantage since taking over the Alaska Aces in 2022. The FiberXers previously defeated Ginebra 106-96 in the elimination round on November 14.
The quarterfinal series began on Christmas Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, where Converge, led by Gomez de Liaño, aimed to capitalize on their advantage and secure a single win to advance to the semifinals.
