NBA player Jaxson Hayes has been suspended for one game after shoving the Washington Wizards' mascot, G-Wiz, during pre-game introductions on January 30.

Waukeen McCoy, the attorney who represented Hayes' ex-girlfriend Sofia Jamora in a 2022 domestic violence lawsuit against him, criticized the NBA's decision. He called the one-game suspension "ridiculous" and suggested the league acted swiftly only because the mascot incident was a public embarrassment to the NBA brand.

McCoy contrasted this with the league's handling of domestic violence allegations against Hayes. In 2021, Hayes was accused of domestic violence by Jamora, which led to a police response and a physical altercation with officers. Video from July 2021 showed Hayes pushing Jamora and spitting in her direction. While the NBA reopened an investigation after the video's release, no documented league punishment resulted from these allegations.

The civil lawsuit filed by Jamora was dismissed in June 2025 after being "settled amicably," according to McCoy. Hayes served his one-game suspension during a Thursday night game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
