Ginebra vs Converge and Titan Ultra vs Meralco Preview
Two of the most exciting teams in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner's Cup, Ginebra and Converge, headline Sunday’s action at the SMART Araneta Coliseum, with tipoff set for 7:30 p.m.. This marks the first time these two sides will meet since their memorable Philippine Cup quarterfinals matchup last December, a game that will go down as one of the best in PBA history. The game ended in overtime, with Ginebra emerging victorious thanks to a dramatic game-winning three-pointer from Stephen Holt at the buzzer, sealing their comeback after trailing by six points in overtime.
Ginebra will enter the game as favorites, with the CasinoPlus sportsbook (link) giving them a 5.5-point edge. The over/under score total for the game is set at 205.5 points.
While Ginebra fans are hoping for another classic performance, the Kings will be looking for an immediate bounce-back after a heartbreaking loss to NLEX in their previous outing. Ginebra had a late-game collapse, eventually falling to the Road Warriors, 118-113, with Robert Bolick leading NLEX's comeback from six points down with just five minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, Converge will aim to avenge their loss to Ginebra in the quarterfinals and snap their three-game losing streak. The FiberXers haven't won since their opening game of the conference, where they came from behind to defeat Macau. Their most recent loss was a 103-99 defeat to San Miguel, which mirrored their playoff loss to the Kings with a controversial foul on Don Trollano in the final moments, allowing San Miguel to seal the win with free throws.
Before this thrilling matchup, Titan Ultra will face Meralco in the opening game of the doubleheader at 5:15 p.m. The Bolts are heavily favored in this matchup, with CasinoPlus giving them a 15.5-point edge, while the over/under total is set at 202.5.
Titan Ultra comes into the game with newfound confidence after securing an impressive 119-112 victory over San Miguel, following an 0-2 start. The win was especially sweet as it gave head coach Rensy Bajar his first PBA victory. Joshua Munzon and Michael Gilmore were key players in the win, and Titan Ultra will look to build on that momentum and continue their strong play, potentially bringing their record to .500 with another victory.
On the other hand, Meralco will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Rain or Shine in their previous game. Despite a strong first-half performance by Marvin Jones, the Bolts lost the game when Jones was unable to contribute in the second half, finishing with just 16 points after scoring 17 in the first half. Jones also added 16 rebounds and three assists, but his inability to maintain that momentum cost Meralco the game. The Bolts will aim to rebound from this and get back on track for a third straight win.
