Gilas Men 3x3 Clinch Spot in Asia Cup Quarterfinals
Gilas Pilipinas Men secured a place in the quarterfinals of the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup 2026 after bouncing back from a tough loss to Mongolia.
The Philippine team—Chris Koon, Ralph Cu, Jerrick Ahanmisi, and Sean Alter—were edged 21-19 by world No. 10 Mongolia but rebounded with a 21-13 victory over Chinese Taipei on Saturday at OCBC Square in Singapore.
Ahanmisi starred in the win against Chinese Taipei, scoring 11 points, including four two-pointers. The Philippines established a 15-8 lead midway through the game and never lost control, securing the win by the final buzzer. Cu added three points and six rebounds, while Koon contributed five points and three boards.
Gilas Men will now face South Korea, the top seed in Pool C, in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 4:35 p.m.
In their match against Mongolia, the Philippines started strong with a 12-5 lead but couldn’t hold on as Mongolia’s seasoned players gradually closed the gap. A clutch hook shot from Ganbaatar Nyamdorj in the final minutes sealed a 21-19 win for Mongolia. Cu and Koon led Gilas with eight and seven points, respectively, while Bolor-Erdene Gantsolmon paced Mongolia with seven points.
Earlier in the tournament, Gilas advanced to the main draw by winning their qualification games, defeating Maldives 21-16 and Thailand 17-15.
