Demusis wife: No apology, compensation from Romero
Zamboanga guard Nick Demusis has not received an apology or compensation from Meralco player Ismael Romero following a kicking incident during the Dubai International Basketball Championships in January. Demusis's wife, Rizza Diaz, a prominent sports figure, clarified this, contradicting earlier reports that suggested an apology had been made.
During the tournament, Romero, who was playing for AlAhliTripoli, physically attacked Demusis mid-game, resulting in a lifetime ban for Romero from the competition. Diaz stated publicly that Romero has not apologized to her husband in either Dubai or Manila, despite claims from Meralco Bolts team manager Paolo Trillo on a radio show that an apology had been offered in Dubai and went unreported by media.
Romero has since been replaced by Marvin Jones on the Meralco Bolts roster for the PBA Commissioner’s Cup. Diaz added that before Romero left the Philippines, there was an expectation for a formal meeting and apology, but it never materialized, which she described as a deception. She emphasized that speaking out was necessary to set the record straight and protect her husband's interests.
As of the latest reports, Meralco has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
