Cjay Perez is PBA Player of the Week after historic Game 6 for SMB
Cjay Perez has been named the PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for January 14-16, heading into the Philippine Cup Finals following a historic performance in Game 6 of the semifinals.
His award-winning performance came as he led San Miguel Beer to a 101-88 closeout victory over Barangay Ginebra. Perez scored 41 points, with 30 of those coming in the first quarter alone. This tied Bong Alvarez for the second-most points scored in a single quarter in PBA history, with Perez achieving a perfect 12-of-12 shooting in that period.
Perez was the unanimous choice for the weekly honor, averaging 30.5 points on 64% shooting during the period, outperforming other nominees. He credited his confidence to his hot start and the visible trust from his coaches on the bench.
With the win, San Miguel Beer advances to a Finals rematch against TNT. Perez now aims to win his fourth PBA championship in the best-of-seven series, which begins on Wednesday, January 21.
